Lesson 6: Voices of the Revolution

Overview:

In this lesson we will take a closer look at the many key individuals who played a role in the Revolutionary War. In order to do this each student will be given a figure in the Revolution to research and bio. Students will be required to study the individual’s personal life and find out the reasons for the persons actions during the Revolution. As a class we will utilize autobiographies, internet research, and other external sources to help gain a greater perspective of the person’s life. Once this research is discovered and gathered, students will then create a podcast. This podcast will be in an interview style which questions are asked to help bring the information on the person’s role in the War to light. Each student will be required to make a podcast on their individual. At the end of this lesson we as a class will listen to each person’s podcast and then look at the information on the podcast to help develop a clear understanding of each key individual’s part in the Revolution.

Podcast Project:

Each student will be assigned a person from the Revolution. Once the person has been assigned to each student, students will be required to research the person and their beliefs, role, and legacy from the Revolution. In order to gather this research, students will use text media, the internet, and any other medium which they feel would help them in telling their person’s story. When students have completed their research they will then do a podcast. The podcast will be an interview, where one student interviews another. The student doing the interview will have a series of questions they will be required to ask to the other student about their person in history. The student being interviewed will be asked to take on the role of the individual they researched, and to answer the questions in the mind set of that person. Students are expected to draw from their research to help them answer the questions to the best of their ability. Once all students have been interviewed and have created the podcast, we as a class will listen to each podcast to help gain a better understanding of the individual and their role in the War.

Resources:

For this lesson students will be asked to use Audacity.com for their podcasts. Along with this tool, students will also be using the internet, text media, and any other sources they find to do their research. I have created 3 different examples of the podcast, and have posted them below.

Podcast Interview with George Washington

Podcast interview with Benedict Arnold
